The right Beam legs for every plant size

The best place to measure soil moisture is in the lower third of the pot. Why? Because over time, watering causes moisture to settle at the bottom. To prevent overwatering, the FYTA Beam is designed with adjustable soil probes that can be tailored to your pot and plant size—accommodating pots up to 60 cm tall! Check your pot size and order the appropriate probes along with your Beam today.

How to chose the right length:

To ensure proper moisture measurement, the length of the sensor probes should match the substrate height, reaching at minimum the lower third of the pot. If the probes don’t reach this depth, the sensor won’t detect moisture at the bottom of the pot and may report lower levels than actually present—potentially leading to overwatering and waterlogging.

If your pot has a drainage layer, the sensor probes should not reach it. Contact with materials like clay pebbles or other drainage elements can cause measurement inaccuracies. If you encounter resistance while inserting the sensor, such as a thick root or bark, try positioning it in a different spot in the pot.

The bottom of the sensor must touch the substrate. However, you can insert the Beam a bit deeper into the soil—this is generally a good thing and helps ensure accurate readings. Just make sure the sensor probes aren’t sticking out of the soil.

Placement Tips for the Sensor Probes

The probes should not stick out of the soil – this ensures the most reliable measurements.

The tips of the probes should reach into the lower third of the pot – this way the sensor also detects deeper moisture levels.

Make sure the probes don’t touch a drainage layer (e.g. clay pebbles) – this could distort the readings.
