App version 4.8.0 brings self-calibration to all G2 sensors: FYTA Beam G2, FYTA Mini, and FYTA Terra.

Self-Calibration for G2 Sensors

G2 sensors use a new method to measure soil moisture. Self-calibration has been developed specifically for these devices and is now available in the app.

Until now, each sensor has operated with a general calibration curve for the selected substrate type, such as potting soil or coco coir. This works well for most standard substrates. Since soil is a natural product and every mix is slightly different, self-calibration lets you adapt the curve to your specific substrate.

How it works: water your substrate until it reaches field capacity (full saturation). The sensor learns your substrate's individual behaviour from this state and delivers more precise readings going forward. Calibration can be repeated at any time, for example after repotting or switching substrates. Values may shift slightly for up to 48 hours after calibration; this is normal.

You'll find the feature at: Device list → Select sensor → "Calibrations & Tests" → "Soil Calibration".

Self-calibration is optional. The standard calibration is suitable for most substrates. It is especially useful for self-mixed or coarse substrates, older substrate, or if you have been seeing implausible readings over time. If the system detects an anomaly, a notification will appear directly in the app.

Note: Self-calibration is currently not available for pots without drainage holes, self-watering pots, or closed semi-hydro systems, as field capacity cannot be reliably determined in these setups.
